Football Tournament Software Compared

Eight tools and JudgeMate for a football or futsal tournament, read on the vendors' own sites on 25 October 2026

Last updated: October 31, 2026

Count your teams and check your cup format before you look at features. Torneo is completely free and publishes eligible competitions on Sofascore. Tournify is free up to 8 teams per event, LiveCup up to 4, and Score7 for one active tournament. Turnierplan.eu has the Swiss system, double elimination and result entry by helper link, with 5 free tournaments that carry ads. Copa Fácil tracks cards and suspensions, and LeagueRepublic and Competize run season leagues. JudgeMate is free with no team limit in a tournament, plays two-legged knockout ties on aggregate with penalties, and runs a match clock with cards on a big screen. It has no Swiss system, no payments and no native app.

Seven checks for a football tournament

Football tournaments break software in the same places every season: a cup tie over two legs, a group where three teams finish level on points, a player who should sit out the next game after his second yellow card. Test these in a dummy event before you invite any teams.

  1. Free plan limit. Count teams as well as tournaments. A free plan for 4 or 8 teams does not cover a 12-team youth tournament, and a plan with one active tournament does not cover an under-11 and an under-13 event on the same Saturday.
  2. Groups into a knockout. This is the usual one-day format. Two groups of four, semi-finals, a third-place match and a final make 16 matches (2 × 6 + 2 + 1 + 1).
  3. Two-legged ties. The aggregate over both games decides. UEFA abolished the away goals rule in all its club competitions from the 2021/22 season, so check what the software does with a level aggregate.
  4. Penalties. Under Law 10.3 of the IFAB Laws of the Game 2026/27, both teams take five kicks, alternately, and then kick in pairs until one team has scored more from the same number of kicks.
  5. Cards and suspensions. Does the tool add up yellow cards across matches and tell you who misses the next game?
  6. Live match. A clock, the score and the cards on a screen by the pitch, or only a final score typed in afterwards.
  7. Who enters results. The organiser, a referee at the pitch or the teams themselves, and who confirms the result before the table moves.

Price, free plan and languages

Every cell comes from the vendor's own site as read on 25 October 2026. Where a vendor publishes nothing, the cell says so.

Copa Fácil's Spanish and English pages show smaller amounts after a bare “$” with no currency name, so we quote the Brazilian price in reais.

Formats and the match itself

Same date, same rule: a cell says “not stated” when the pages we read do not mention the feature. That proves nothing about the product, so ask the vendor or test it.

Two-legged ties: where most tools go quiet

A district cup copies the format clubs know from Europe: home and away, goals added up, the team with more over both games goes through. Since UEFA abolished the away goals rule from the 2021/22 season, a level aggregate is settled by whatever the competition rules prescribe.

For leagues, the pages we read are clear. Torneo runs a round robin “single or double”, and Turnierplan.eu creates leagues “with either a single round or home-and-away format”. For a knockout tie over two legs we found nothing on any competitor page. If your cup needs one, build a dummy tie and see what happens at 1-1 and 1-1.

In JudgeMate a knockout can be switched to two legs. The second leg settles the tie on aggregate, a level aggregate goes to a penalty shoot-out, and away goals do not count. Two-legged ties exist only in sports where a match can end level and has a shoot-out: football, futsal, handball, field hockey, ice hockey, floorball and water polo.

Futsal and indoor tournaments

Winter tournaments in a sports hall come in two kinds, and the rules differ by region. In Germany there is no single DFB rule for indoor football. The Saxon association (SFV) plays youth indoor football under futsal rules from 1 July 2025, while districts such as Rees-Bocholt in the Lower Rhine association publish their own indoor rules for 2026.

Most general tools treat futsal as one more sport. Torneo lists futsal, LiveCup names it on its home page, Tournify has it in its sports grid, and Turnierplan.eu says it suits indoor tournaments. The difference shows on the match clock, so ask three things: does it count down, does it count fouls per half, and what does a red card do to the number of players.

JudgeMate's futsal scoreboard counts down two 20-minute halves. It adds up accumulated fouls per half and flags the sixth, the one that brings a free kick from 10 m. Each team has one timeout per half and none in extra time. After a red card the team plays one short for 2 minutes or until the opponents score. A futsal forfeit defaults to 5-0, a football forfeit to 3-0, and you can change both.

For indoor football with boards and a district's own rules, use the football board and set the half length. The football board does not record substitutions or time penalties, so a youth tournament with 2-minute suspensions keeps those on paper.

Torneo and Copa Fácil: free to start, built around an app

Torneo by Sofascore answers the price question on its own FAQ: “Yes, completely free.” There is no limit on the number of leagues or tournaments per account. Formats are a league with a single or double round robin, a knockout, and a two-stage event from groups into a knockout; double elimination is marked “coming soon”. Eligible competitions are published on Sofascore, which Torneo says is used by more than 50 million fans, and the apps run on iOS and Android. The pages we read mention no clock for a pitchside screen and no penalty shoot-out.

Copa Fácil is a Brazilian company that reports more than 5 million downloads. It runs leagues, group stages and knockouts with configurable tie-breakers, and keeps top scorers, cards and suspensions. Creating tournaments, adding teams and entering results is free, with no limit published. On the Brazilian site the Custom plan costs R$ 25 a month for up to 300 players per championship, and Professional R$ 55 with unlimited players and a JSON API.

Turnierplan.eu, Tournify, Score7 and LiveCup: built for the tournament day

Turnierplan.eu is a German planner with an interface in 28 languages. It takes up to 64 participants and 12 groups, plays the Swiss system in ten modes and double elimination, and builds leagues as a single round or home and away. Helpers enter results on a phone through a link without logging in, several match timers can run at once, and the stadium view is available in every tournament. The free plan covers 5 tournaments with ads and a watermarked PDF. Premium costs €4.90 a month for 20 tournaments, Premium Plus €6.90 with no tournament limit, VAT included.

Tournify charges per event. Amateur is free for up to 8 teams with a live website and slideshow, World Class costs €40 for up to 60 teams and adds publication in their app, and Legendary costs €120 with no team limit. Its football page offers “flexible formats, smart scheduling, and built-in referee assignment”. We compared Tournify in detail on the padel side.

Score7 lists round robin, knockout, double elimination, Swiss and groups into a knockout. It keeps goals, assists and cards for every player and has a TV mode for the screen at the venue. Starter is free for one active tournament with Score7 branding and ads. Paid plans cost $9, $18 and $27 a month for 3, 10 and unlimited active tournaments. You can build a tournament without an account and sign up later to keep it.

LiveCup names football and futsal first and counts 11 formats across 31 sports. The free plan allows one active tournament, three a month and 4 teams per tournament, enough to try it on a friendly. Pro costs $9 a month for up to 32 teams and adds a referee mode in which each referee sees only their own matches. One tournament can be bought from $3 without a subscription.

Competize and LeagueRepublic: the season more than the day

Competize has been around since 2010 and sells to clubs, federations and councils, with court and pitch booking in the same system. The free Friends plan allows one active competition. Small Tournaments costs €19 a month and Professional Managers €39 a month for 10 competitions; federations and agencies get a quote. TV mode comes with Professional Managers and Federations & Agencies, not with Friends or Small Tournaments.

LeagueRepublic is British league software. The free plan covers the league scheduler, match results, player statistics and online registration and payments, with ads. GOLD costs from €16.50 a month for up to 25 teams to €81.40 for more than 300, and payments carry a fee of 1% per transaction. It has a referee assignment system and a player suspension system, and UK leagues can enter results by SMS. A Sunday league that collects match fees online gets something here that a tournament tool does not offer.

Three local tools, one line each

In Poland, TourneyApp is a free football generator with groups, a cup and Gold and Silver brackets, for an unlimited number of tournaments. In Austria and Germany, Turniermeister is free in demo mode without a public tournament page and costs €19 a month or €149 a year. TurnierBuilder, in German only, is free for up to 8 teams per tournament and costs €14.99 once for up to 32.

JudgeMate: what runs for football and futsal, and what does not

Teams. A club enters by name, without player accounts. A football squad defaults to 23 names and a futsal squad to 14, with room for up to 30. You choose who enters the teams: you, a team manager or the players.

Formats. Round robin, knockout, and groups into a knockout with 1 to 4 groups. A knockout can add a third-place match, a consolation round and two-legged ties. There is no Swiss system and no double elimination.

Tables. A win is worth 3 points and a draw 1. In a tournament group, teams level on points are separated by the games between them, then goal difference, then goals scored; a tie nothing separates is shown, and you settle it. A league offers two orders: head-to-head first, or goal difference and goals scored first. Football has no federation rule set in the picker, so you choose the order your regulations use. A forfeit defaults to 3-0.

Cards and suspensions. Switch on automatic suspensions and choose how many yellow cards bring a ban (2 to 5) and how many matches a red card costs (1 to 3). A red card for a second yellow counts once, as a red. Tables of top scorers, assists, cards and suspended players come with it.

Live scoreboard. The football clock counts up through two 45-minute halves. Added time moves in steps of one minute or by presets of +1, +3 and +5, extra time is 2 × 15, and the penalty shoot-out runs five kicks each, then sudden death. A second yellow turns red by itself. A goal or card (and a foul on the futsal board) can be voided and restored, and a goal can be moved to the other team.

Who enters results. By default, the organiser. You can let teams report and confirm their own results in group and round-robin games of a tournament. Knockout, consolation and third-place results are always confirmed by the organiser. A referee with the match QR code runs the score on the board, and the result counts in the table once the organiser confirms it. In a league, only the organiser and co-organisers enter results.

At the ground. Pitches are resources with an auto-schedule. Match cards and the drawn bracket print as PDF.

Price. Free for organisers, no card. A tournament has no team limit; a league takes up to 64 teams.

What we do not have: online payments (entry fees are only recorded), email, SMS or push notifications, a native app, a link to PZPN Extranet or DFBnet, a match report approved by an association, substitutions or time penalties on the football board, and children's festivals where teams rotate between pitches.

Try the football live scoreboard or create a football tournament. For a quick bracket without an account there is the bracket generator, and the football scoring guide covers extra time and penalties.

Which one fits your tournament

The competition has to appear on Sofascore. Torneo. Nothing else here publishes there.

You want the Swiss system or double elimination. Turnierplan.eu or Score7.

The cup is played over two legs. JudgeMate plays the tie on aggregate with penalties. Test any other tool with a dummy tie first.

You collect match fees for a season league. LeagueRepublic takes payments online. JudgeMate only records whether a fee is paid.

A youth day for 10 or more teams with no budget. Tournify's free plan stops at 8 teams and LiveCup's at 4. JudgeMate has no team limit, Torneo no limit on tournaments, and Turnierplan.eu takes 64 participants on 5 free tournaments.

Clock and cards on the screen in the hall. JudgeMate's football and futsal boards show both. Turnierplan.eu's live timers put the match time on a big screen; its website says nothing about cards. Try each one on your own laptop and TV a week before the tournament.

Try JudgeMate on your next event

A football event takes about 10 minutes to configure. No athlete limits, no commission on registrations. See football features · Football glossary
