What this tool does
A single elimination bracket is the fastest way to find a winner: 8 teams, 7 matches, done. The awkward part is a field that isn't a power of two. This page rounds up to the next bracket size and hands out byes the way tournament draws do, so nobody plays a ghost and the top of the list rests first.
Round robin is the other way around: everyone plays everyone once and a table decides. Both formats are built by the same draw engine that runs tournaments on JudgeMate. Nothing is sent anywhere; your bracket stays in this browser.
How to use it
- 1
Paste the names
One team or player per line, from 2 to 64. Repeats and blank lines are cleaned up.
- 2
Pick a format and generate
Single elimination or round robin. Shuffle for a random draw, or keep the list order as the seeding.
- 3
Enter winners, print, or go live
Tap a match to set the winner; the next round fills itself. Print the bracket or run the tournament on JudgeMate.
Questions about the bracket generator
How many teams fit in a bracket?
From 2 to 64. A field that isn't a power of two gets byes in round 1: 7 teams play in an 8-slot bracket with one bye, 12 teams in a 16-slot bracket with four.
Who gets a bye?
With shuffling off, the list order is the seeding, so the byes go to the top names, the same convention as a seeded tennis or padel draw. With shuffling on, the draw spreads the byes across the bracket, one per pair, so nobody gets two in a row.
Is it free, and do I need an account?
It's free and there's no sign-up. The bracket and its results are saved in your browser only, not on a server, so there's no link to share in this version. Print it, copy the match list, or run the tournament on JudgeMate when you want a public page.
Can I enter results and see who advances?
Yes. Tap a match, pick the winner and add the score if you want. The winner moves into the next round on its own; change an earlier result and the later ones clear so nothing stale stays on the bracket. In round robin the standings table counts 3 points for a win and 1 for a draw.
Single elimination or round robin?
Single elimination needs one match fewer than the number of teams and finishes in an afternoon. Round robin gives everyone the same number of matches but grows fast: 8 teams means 7 matches in a knockout and 28 in a round robin. For bigger fields, split into groups with the schedule maker first.
