Pickleball Tournament Software Compared

Six tournament tools and three neighbours, checked on what a pickleball director pays per player and on the formats in the USA Pickleball rulebook

Last updated: October 27, 2026

In pickleball the price usually follows the player. Pickleball.com charges a $25 setup fee and adds $5 plus 7.99% to each player's checkout. R2 Sports, approved software for USAPA, charges $30 per tournament, $1 per player and $0.50 per player division. Pickleball Den bills per player without publishing the rate. Rankedin and Xporty price per tournament. JudgeMate is free and lets you pick side-out or rally scoring on its scoreboard, but it takes no payments, has no double elimination and no DUPR link.

Five things a pickleball director can check before paying

In pickleball many vendors charge each player, the rulebook allows formats that generic bracket tools skip, and two outside systems, USA Pickleball membership and the DUPR rating, often sit inside registration. Each check below can be done on a vendor's own page or in a trial.

1. Who pays, and per what. A per-player fee scales with your field, a per-tournament fee does not. Look for who carries the fee: the player at checkout or the director on an invoice after the event.

2. The USAP formats. Rule 15.B of the 2026 USA Pickleball rulebook lists double elimination (the loser drops into a consolation bracket and the consolation winner plays the main winner, with a tie-breaker game to 15 if needed), single elimination with or without consolation, round robin, pool play into a playoff, and team play with singles, doubles and mixed lines.

3. Round robin tie order. USAP 15.B.4 ranks by matches won, then head-to-head among the tied teams, then point differential across all games, then further point steps. Since 2026 the last step is the most points scored. Software that ranks by a points table or by ratios will order a tied pool differently.

4. Side-out or rally scoring. Traditional scoring gives points only to the serving side. Rule 15.C.2 lets a tournament director use rally scoring as a provisional rule in 2026, except in double elimination doubles events, the 2026 Golden Ticket events and the 2026 National Championships. The GPF edition keeps only the double elimination exception. In bad weather 15.C.2.d allows a rally game to 7 with a side switch at 4. Ask whether the scoring app follows the format you choose.

5. USAP and DUPR at registration. A sanctioned event needs players with active USA Pickleball membership, and DUPR-rated events are common enough that Pickleball Den and CourtReserve sell a DUPR link. Check whether the software asks for either during registration, or whether you will check them by hand.

The options side by side

Every cell comes from the vendor's own page or manual, read on 25 October 2026. "Not stated" means we found nothing on the public pages.

Three more names come up in every pickleball search and are covered further down: UTR Sports for its UTR-P rating, PlayTime Scheduler for open play, and CourtReserve for court booking.

Pickleball.com (Pickleball Tournaments): the fee rides on the checkout

Pickleball Tournaments (PT) is the tournament service of Pickleball.com, priced in US dollars. Each event inside a tournament gets a format (round robin, single elimination or double elimination), a skill level and, if needed, an age requirement. Registration can require a completed profile or USA Pickleball membership.

Price. A one-time $25 setup fee per tournament, paid by the director before it goes live; unpaid after 5 business days, the listing is deleted. For tournaments opening on or after 3 August 2026 the amateur player service fee is $5 plus 7.99% of the player's registration checkout. With Stripe connected, that fee is added to the player's total, so a $100 checkout carries $12.99. Players you add by hand or give a full discount still cost you the fee. Text notifications are $0.35 per player in the US and always billed to the director.

An ad-only listing costs $500 and may not use a competing platform for registration, payments, brackets or scoring. If you plan to list on PT but run the draw elsewhere, that clause applies to you.

Pickleball Den: per player, everything included, price on request

Pickleball Den covers the tournament from registration to results. Players register in the app and invite their partner, check in electronically and pay in advance through PayPal or Stripe. On the day they enter scores themselves and get court assignments by in-app or text notification. A simulator helps set bracket start times for the courts you have.

Two features are specific to pickleball. Directors can require an active USA Pickleball membership at registration to host sanctioned events, and they can run DUPR-enabled events where players link their DUPR account and results update the rating. A newer feature lets you change the score format mid-bracket when the weather turns. A team module handles club against club, and fixed-doubles round robin leagues run over several weeks.

Price. Cost is per player, regardless of how many events a player enters, invoiced to the director after the tournament. Texting, registration, check-in and bracket management are included. The amount itself is not on the page, so ask for a quote with your expected field size.

R2 Sports: approved for USAPA, priced per player and per division

R2 Sports runs tournaments in dozens of sports, and its pickleball page describes it as "Approved software for USAPA". Players register online, the director seeds brackets and sets match times, staff update scores, and results appear in real time on the event website and in the R2 Sports app. Match management uses their Scorecard app and an event projection display.

Price. A $30 activation fee per tournament. In the USA, Canada and Europe individual sports then cost $1 per player plus $0.50 per player division, with optional card processing at 5.5%. Mexico and South America pay $0.50 per player plus $0.50 per player division. A pickleball league product costs $20 and a challenge ladder $0.

The page lists "Multiple Bracket Types" without naming them on the product page, and says nothing about rally scoring or how a round robin tie is broken. If you need double elimination with the USAP tie-breaker game to 15, confirm it before activation.

Rankedin: per-tournament pricing and a rally-scoring referee app

Rankedin is a Norwegian platform for racket sports with tournaments, leagues and rankings. Its E-Referee manual lists pickleball as "Point a Rally till 11 with 2 clear points advantage. Best of 1, 3, 5 Games". That is rally scoring. The article does not mention side-out scoring, so a club that plays the traditional count should test E-Referee on one match first.

Price. Basic is free and covers draws, seeding, scheduling and result entry. Live scoring with E-Referee and scoreboards is part of Premium, priced per tournament by size: €14.90 up to 24 players, €29.90 up to 48 and €59.90 unlimited. Online entry fees go through Stripe with an extra 1% Rankedin fee. Because the price follows the tournament and not the player, a large club event costs the same €59.90 whether 60 or 200 players enter.

We did not find USA Pickleball or DUPR mentioned in the pages we read.

Xporty: free for a small event, then a fixed price per competition

Xporty is a Spanish platform with its own pickleball page: tournaments, leagues and circuits, online entries with payment, automatic court and time assignment, brackets and standings. Its competition types include single and double KO brackets with consolation, leagues, round robin groups with playoffs, leveled leagues with promotion and relegation, and social formats it calls americanas, pozos and mexicanos. Players can enter their own results. Xporty also runs its own level ranking of players, separate from DUPR.

Price. The free plan allows one active competition with up to 20 players, 15 pairs or 6 teams, one category and two phases. Paid plans are priced per competition by the total number of entries across all categories: €30 for up to 50 players or 40 pairs, €75 for up to 150 players or 90 pairs, €125 and €168 for larger fields, with 20% off when you book more than three. Entry fees go through Stripe, a virtual POS or Flow.

The free plan allows one category, and in pickleball men's, women's and mixed doubles are already three.

Rating, open play and court booking: UTR Sports, PlayTime Scheduler, CourtReserve

UTR Sports offers pickleball event management and the UTR-P rating to clubs at no extra cost on top of its club plans. Those plans are published: $3,100 a year with free Verified events and no share of entry fees, or $1,100 a year with 10% of entry fees going to UTR. It suits a club that already runs tennis on UTR and wants rated pickleball events in the same place.

PlayTime Scheduler is a free tool built only for pickleball. Players create and join local play sessions, and it generates round robins from a session's signup list. It is meant for open play and social round robins. It is not a tournament registration system.

CourtReserve is club management and court booking: reservations, lessons, events, memberships. The Launch plan costs $159 a month billed annually for 8 courts, and a DUPR integration is a $25 monthly add-on. It fits a club where the tournament is one of many things it runs, and it overlaps with the tools above only on events and leagues.

One event priced five ways

Take a club tournament with 80 players. Each plays two doubles events, for example men's or women's doubles and mixed, so there are 80 pairs in total. Registration is $50 plus $25 per event, which gives each player a $100 checkout.

ProductWhat it costsWho pays it
Pickleball.com$25 setup; 80 × $12.99 = $1,039.20 in service fees (total $1,064.20)Director pays $25; with Stripe the service fees are added to players' checkouts
R2 Sports$30 + 80 × $1 + 160 × $0.50 = $190, if each event entry counts as a player division; card processing 5.5% extraDirector
Rankedin€0 on Basic; €59.90 for Premium with live scoring (more than 48 players); Stripe fees + 1% on online entriesDirector
Xporty€75, Premium II (up to 90 pairs); the free plan stops at 15 pairs and 1 categoryDirector
Pickleball DenPer player, rate not publishedDirector, invoiced after the event
JudgeMate$0Nobody; you collect entry fees yourself

The per-player models look cheap for a 16-team round robin and expensive for a 200-player weekend. The per-tournament models do the opposite. Payments are the other half of the bill, since every tool that collects money online adds its processor's fee.

JudgeMate for pickleball: what it does and what it lacks

Scoreboard. The pickleball live scoreboard starts with pairs, games to 11, a two-point lead and two games to win, using side-out scoring. Before the match starts you can switch to singles and to a point on every rally. Each game closes on its own once the target is reached.

Draw. Pairs by default, with a switch to singles. Pairs can play a round robin, a knockout, or pools into a knockout with one to four pools. One pool sends 2, 4 or 8 through, two or four pools send 1 or 2 from each, and three pools send 1 or 2 from each plus the best teams from the next place. The knockout can add a third-place match and a consolation round, either one round or a full consolation bracket. For a social evening there are americano, mexicano, mixicano, team americano and king of the court, where each round is a race to 16, 21, 24 or 32 points. Points per game (11, 15, 21 or 25) and games to win (1, 2 or 3) are set for the whole draw or for a single match.

Round robin table. A new pickleball draw starts with the USA Pickleball 15.B.4 rules: 1 point per match won, then wins among the tied teams, point differential across all games, point differential among the tied teams, point differential against the next higher team and most points scored. Results of a team that withdrew are struck out. The organizer can switch to custom points they enter themselves; ties then go to head-to-head, then game ratio and point ratio.

On the day. Pairs can register themselves from the public event page, and a player without a partner can mark themselves as looking for one. In pools and round robin, players can enter match results and the opponent confirms; knockout results are confirmed by the organizer. Courts are resources with an automatic schedule, and a referee QR code opens one match's score panel.

Price. Free, with no fee per player or per tournament.

What we do not have. No online payments (entry fees can only be marked paid or waived), no email, text or push notifications, no DUPR or other rating, no USA Pickleball membership check, no double elimination, no team match with singles, doubles and mixed lines, no check of skill level or age in a category, no rally game to 7 for bad weather, and no court booking.

Which one fits your event

Sanctioned USA Pickleball event. You need USAP membership checks and the 15.B formats, double elimination included. Pickleball.com and Pickleball Den both ask for USAP membership at registration; R2 Sports calls itself approved software for USAPA. Compare the per-player bills for your expected field.

DUPR-rated event. Pickleball Den runs DUPR-enabled events. If your club already books courts in CourtReserve, its DUPR add-on is another route.

Club tournament with online payment, outside the USA. Xporty or Rankedin charge per competition and take card payments, which keeps a large field affordable. Test the format you need on a small event first.

Free event where the score matters more than the checkout. A club championship, a school event or a charity round robin where you collect entry fees in cash: JudgeMate runs the draw with side-out scoring at no cost, and its standalone scoreboard can also switch to rally scoring. Read the 2026 pickleball rule changes or how pickleball scoring works before you choose the format.

Weekly open play. PlayTime Scheduler is free and built for exactly that.
