Pickleball.com Alternative for Pickleball Tournaments
A per-player fee and the USA Pickleball and DUPR connections on one side, a free draw and a point-by-point scoreboard on the other
Pickleball Tournaments (PT), the tournament product on Pickleball.com, takes registrations, checks USA Pickleball membership, can seed brackets from DUPR ratings and runs round robin, single and double elimination. A tournament costs the director a $25 setup fee, and in tournaments that opened registration on or after 3 August 2026 each amateur player pays $5 plus 7.99% of the registration checkout. JudgeMate costs nothing to organizers or players. It runs round robin, knockout and pool play, plus americano, mixicano and king of the court, and its scoreboard switches between side-out and rally scoring. It takes no payments, sends no texts and has no DUPR link or double elimination.
What Pickleball.com's tournament software is
The tournament side of Pickleball.com is called Pickleball Tournaments, or PT in its own help center. Directors who used Pickleball Brackets will recognize it: a May 2024 DUPR FAQ lists Pickleball Brackets and Pickleball Tournaments together as Pickleball Inc. properties.
A PT tournament is a container for events, which the setup guide defines as "the individual brackets within your tournament (e.g., Men's Doubles 3.5, Mixed Doubles 4.0)". Each event gets a format (round robin, single elimination or double elimination), a skill level written as "and under", "and above", "only" or a range, and age requirements where they apply. Registration can demand a completed player profile or USA Pickleball membership, and checkout runs through Stripe, on-site payment, pay later or a custom option.
Two connections set PT apart from a generic bracket tool. When an event requires membership in a sanctioning or ratings body, the member discount is verified "through a live API call to that organization". And when the optional DUPR integration is on, PT can pull players' DUPR ratings to seed the brackets; for events registered with DUPR it can also send match results back to DUPR.
So PT is a registration, payment and seeding system built around the US federation and the DUPR rating. JudgeMate starts later in the day: the draw, the court schedule and the live score of each rally. If you need the rules first, the pickleball scoring guide covers side-out and rally scoring.
What each one costs
PT publishes its fees in its help center. We read the pricing page on 25 October 2026; it was last updated on 22 October 2026.
| Fee | Pickleball Tournaments (PT) | JudgeMate |
|---|---|---|
| Setup, per tournament | $25, paid by the director, non-refundable. Unpaid after 5 business days, the listing is deleted | $0 |
| Amateur player service fee | $5 + 7.99% of the registration checkout (base fee plus event fees), added at Stripe checkout, non-refundable. Applies to tournaments opening on or after 3 August 2026 | $0. We do not collect entry fees at all |
| Pro player service fee | $25 per event, when a pro bracket offers $10,000 or more in prize money | $0 |
| Player text notifications | $0.35 per registered player in the US, billed to the director's card, cannot be passed to players or reversed | Not available |
| Fee escrow instead of the player fee | $5.00 per registration, billed to the organizer | Not applicable |
| Manual registrations (no Stripe checkout) | The service fee is charged to the tournament's card each time the balance reaches $250, and the rest no later than 5 days after the event | Not applicable |
A worked example. Forty-eight players each check out $50 in registration and event fees. Each one pays a service fee of about $9 ($5 plus 7.99% of $50, rounded to the cent), so the field pays about $432 in fees on top of entries. The director pays the $25 setup fee, and with texting switched on another 48 × $0.35 = $16.80, so $41.80 in total. If those 48 players were entered by hand instead of through Stripe, those roughly $432 would be charged to the tournament's card each time the balance reached $250, with the rest no later than 5 days after the event.
Tournaments that opened for registration before 3 August 2026 stay on the older plan: $5 per event, capped at $10 per player per tournament.
JudgeMate has no fee table because there is nothing to charge. The flip side is that a JudgeMate event collects no money either. We record who paid, who was waived and who still owes; the cash or the card terminal stays with you.
Features side by side
PT is strongest before the first serve: entries, money, membership and ratings. JudgeMate is strongest on the courts. Rows marked "not covered" are things the PT pages we read do not describe, not confirmed gaps.
| Capability | Pickleball Tournaments (PT) | JudgeMate |
|---|---|---|
| Bracket formats | Round robin, single elimination, double elimination | Round robin, knockout with optional consolation (one round or a full bracket) and third-place match, pool play into a knockout (1 to 4 pools) |
| Double elimination | Yes | No |
| Rotating-partner formats | Not in PT. Pickleball.com's Game Maker has scramble (new partner every match) and king of the court under Organized Play, on a paid plan after a 30-day trial | Americano, mixicano, team americano, king of the court and mexicano; rounds are a race to 16, 21, 24 or 32 points |
| Payment at entry | Stripe, on-site, pay later or custom | None. Fee status recorded per entry: paid, waived or unpaid |
| USA Pickleball membership | Can be required; sanctioning and ratings discounts verified by live API | Not checked |
| DUPR | With the optional DUPR integration, ratings pulled for seeding; results sent back for DUPR-registered events | No rating of any kind; seeds come from start numbers |
| Skill and age per event | "And under", "and above", "only" or a range, plus age requirements | You name the category; nothing checks level or age |
| Scoring on court | Not covered | Side-out with the server number (doubles open at 0-0-2) or rally scoring, chosen when the scoreboard is set up |
| Game length | Not covered | Game to 11, 15, 21 or 25; best of 1, 3 or 5, for the whole draw or one match |
| Who enters the score | The director in Court Desk, or players from their phones through player score entry; printed score sheets carry a QR code and an ID | A referee with the match QR, the organizer, or, in pools and round robin, the players, with the other side confirming |
| Round robin tie-breaks | Not covered | A new pickleball draw starts with USA Pickleball 15.B.4: matches won, head-to-head, point differential, then steps d to f; a tie left after that is the organizer's call. You can switch to your own points, and a league can pick 15.B.4 in Settings |
| Big screen | Not covered | Hall display at /display/[event-slug] |
| Messages to players | Texts at $0.35 per player, plus email | None: no email, SMS or push |
| Interface languages | English | English, Polish, German, Spanish |
| Price to organizer | $25 per tournament, plus texting | $0 |

When Pickleball.com is the right call
Stay on PT when the event is part of the US pickleball system.
- The tournament is USA Pickleball sanctioned or requires membership. PT can make USAP membership a condition of entry and verify membership discounts against the sanctioning or ratings body in real time. We cannot do either.
- You seed by DUPR. With the optional DUPR integration on, PT pulls players' DUPR ratings and builds seedings from them, and for DUPR-registered events it posts results back. Players who care about their rating will expect that.
- The draw is double elimination. It is one of PT's three formats. JudgeMate does not have it, and the 2026 USA Pickleball rulebook (15.B.1) describes it with a tie-breaker game to 15 if the consolation winner beats the main-bracket winner.
- Entry fees must be collected online. Stripe checkout with per-event fees is built in. The player service fee goes on the player's checkout, so the director's own bill stays small.
- Brackets are split by skill and age. Men's Doubles 3.5, Mixed 4.0 and 50+ events are set up with level and age rules on the event itself.
- Players need texts about their court times. PT sends them for $0.35 per player; JudgeMate sends nothing.
For a sanctioned weekend with hundreds of entries and a prize purse, the per-player fee is easy to justify, and the pricing page is clear about who pays what.
When JudgeMate fits better
Pick JudgeMate for the events that never needed sanctioning: a club championship, a league night, a fundraiser or a first tournament at a new facility.
- No setup fee and no per-player fee. Forty-eight players at $50 is about $432 in service fees on PT. Here it is zero, and nobody needs a Stripe account.
- Side-out or rally on the standalone scoreboard. The pickleball live scoreboard keeps side-out scoring by default and tracks the server number, so a doubles game opens at 0-0-2 and a fault by the first server passes the serve to the partner. One switch at setup turns on rally scoring. Matches inside a tournament draw are scored side-out. USA Pickleball still lists rally scoring as a provisional rule (15.C.2) and bars it from double-elimination doubles events, 2026 Golden Ticket events and the 2026 National Championships, which is why a non-sanctioned club event is the natural place to try it.
- Rotating partners are a built-in format. Americano, mixicano and king of the court run for pickleball the same way they run for padel: players enter alone, partners rotate, rounds are a race to 16, 21, 24 or 32 points.
- Game length is a setting. Game to 11, 15 or 21, best of 1, 3 or 5, for the whole draw or a single match.
- A QR code on every court. The referee scans it and gets the scoring panel for that match only, no account. Or, in pools and round robin, the players enter the score and the other pair confirms.
- A screen for the crowd. The hall display shows live matches and standings; spectators open the same results on their phones.
- Four languages. English, Polish, German and Spanish, which matters for a club with players from several countries.

Where JudgeMate falls short
Against PT, these are the gaps a director will hit.
- No payments. Entry fees are recorded, never collected. Refunds, add-ons and payouts all happen outside JudgeMate.
- No messages. No texts, no email, no push. Court calls happen at the desk or by announcement.
- No DUPR, no rating at all. We do not pull ratings for seeding and we do not send results anywhere. Seeds come from start numbers you assign.
- No USA Pickleball check. Membership, sanctioning status and discounts are not verified.
- No double elimination. The closest option is a knockout with a full consolation bracket. Our third-place match is played between the losing semifinalists, not inside the consolation bracket as USAP 15.B.2 describes.
- No level or age checks. A player can sign up for a 3.5 or 50+ category and nothing stops them.
- No team play with lines. A club-versus-club match made of singles, doubles and mixed lines does not exist here.
- Rotating formats play to a points race. In americano and king of the court a round is a race to 16, 21, 24 or 32. A game to 11 is not available there.
- Small, unknown, outside the US ecosystem. PT has the players' accounts and their DUPR history. A JudgeMate event starts with nobody already registered.
Using both on the same weekend
The split is simple because the two tools cover different parts of the tournament day.
- Registration, payment, USAP membership and DUPR stay on PT. That is what the fee pays for, and players already have accounts there.
- Put a JudgeMate scoreboard on the feature court. Open the pickleball live scoreboard on a tablet, set side-out or rally to match the event, and share the spectator link or show it on the venue screen.
- Enter final scores in PT yourself. Nothing syncs between the two: no import, no shared player list, no DUPR submission from our side.
- Run the unsanctioned side events here. A Friday americano mixer or a juniors round robin does not need registration fees, and it costs nothing in JudgeMate.
- Keep each draw in one place. Splitting one bracket across two systems doubles the score entry and invites mismatches.
The pickleball glossary explains the terms both systems use, from side out to non-volley zone.
